THE ROLE OF A COVER SUPERVISOR:
The role of a Cover Supervisor is an incredibly responsible one and every day is different. Usually working with pupils aged 11-16, cover supervisors deliver pre-set work in the absence of the permanent class teacher. Covering a variety of subjects, you will be required to manage classroom behavior to ensure pupils stay on task in a safe but effective learning environment – this is not a teaching role and you do NOT need any teaching qualifications or experience to apply. If you are considering training as a teacher in the future this is a excellent opportunity to gain experience in the sector.

The role is flexible and can fit around other personal/work commitments. You are required to work between 1 and 5 days a week Monday – Friday 08.30 – 3PM.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Delivering work that has been pre-set by the class teacher.
  • Managing the behavior of pupils to ensure they are kept on track with the pre-set work.
  • Responding to any questions from pupils during the lesson.
  • Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies and procedures.
  • Reporting back any issues using the schools’ policies on the behavior of pupils during the class and any issues arising.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • To have excellent communication skills.
  • To be confident leading, confident to deal with challenging behavior.
  • Not essential but beneficial – working towards a degree or have a degree qualification OR hold a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject
  • Not essential but beneficial – experience working with Children/Young People (this can involve voluntary work/college or uni placement
  • Confident and adaptable
  • Not essential but beneficial – Background in sports coaching, dance teaching, swimming teacher, private tutoring, private music teacher, worked in a caring role, police, fostering, residential care worked with SEN or challenging behavior – TEFEL or TESOL
